August 10th Classes Posted and August 11th, Opening Day of School Parent Information and Safety Protocols for Ranch Hills:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A big thank you to all the incoming Kindergarten and 1st grade parents who brought their child to meet their teacher last week. We staggered the students through appointments and most of you took of advantage of this opportunity. This will help to reduce their anxiety.
All grades are invited to stop by school this Tuesday afternoon, August 10, between 2:00-5:00 if you are able. Say hi and check out your child's class list and teacher assignment. You can join PTA on the spot for just $8.50 (cash) and if you do you will receive a free 2021-2022 Ranch Hills school coloring calendar. Otherwise they will cost $5.00. The YMCA and myself will be on hand to field questions.
This Wednesday, August 11, is our first day for all students! This first day and then on any future day, you may drop your child off at the curbside in front of the school, but no earlier than 7:30. Our supervisors do not begin their work day until 7:30.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty of the DELTA virus, per PUSD, for the safety of our students, parents are not permitted on campus unless they have an appointment and then must check in at the office. This includes the first day of school.
Please give your child hugs and goodbyes inside the car before you pull up for drop off. Do not come onto our playground. We will help your child find their way. We will help assure them they are safe, but what you do to prepare them will help the most. If you park on the street and/or walk your child to school, please drop them off near the front sidewalk where there is supervision.
Upon drop off, our K students will be escorted to the cafeteria by an assigned supervisor even if they choose not to have breakfast. We want them inside waiting safely. Near 8:00 a.m. Kinders will be escorted to their meeting area where their teachers will greet them. The teachers are planning activities to help get to know the students and make them comfortable with being on site. We will explicitly teach them our expectations for behavior at school.
1st-6th will also be dropped off along the front curbside or they may walk through the back gate from the back park area. Again, parents are not permitted on campus, so please make sure your child understands where they are to meet you upon their dismissal at 1:25 that first day. Your child will feel less anxious if they clearly understand the family plan.
1st -6th grade students may enter the playground front or back gate, set their backpacks on their line (we will train them this procedure), and then enter the cafeteria from the playground side for breakfast. Again, although breakfast isn't required, it is free. Take advantage of it! But students need to finish eating breakfast around 8:00.
Students will line up at 8:00 and be greeted by their teacher. Remember, student and adult masking is required INSIDE the building. If you are not comfortable with masking, please contact the office so that we can direct you to Independent Study for your child which begins August 11th. If your child forgets his or her mask, the teacher will provide one for them when they enter the building.
If your child does not want the lunch provided for them by PUSD, please provide a packed lunch. Please remember to label your child's belongings. Dismissal on August 11th is 1:25 for 1st-6th grade students. Kindergarten students will be escorted and supervised outside where they need to be picked up at 12:00, after they finish lunch.

Remember that every Friday is LSF or Late Start Friday for students for teacher meetings and learning. August 13 is the first Friday and is a LSF, so your child needs to be at school by 9:00 am. Of course you may drop them off early for breakfast.

The most important item is to clearly let your child know who and where your child is to be picked up from. Older students in grades 4-6 may exit the back gate and meet their parents there or even walk home ONLY if this is safe and your route is reinforced to them before they actually walk home. Please practice this.

August 2, 2021: IMPORTANT RETURN TO SCHOOL INFORMATION
Dear Families of Ranch Hills,
I want to welcome you and your children back to a new school year. Despite the uncertainties with COVID variants, “PUSD is coming back to better” and returning to school in person on August 11th.
Student safety is still our first priority. All school employees and students will be required to wear a mask while inside the building. Each student will have a plexi-partition on their desk. Although distance learning will not be available like it was in 2020-2021, there is an independent study program accessible through PUSD that will be parent led and not provided by individual school sites. Contact us if you prefer this route for your child so we can adjust your enrollment.
To help us “come back to better,” I am grateful for the increased support we have this year for our students. Our school counselor, Mrs. Keenen, is returning to help support our staff and students as they return. Mrs. Barela, our intervention teacher, will work in person with small groups of targeted students to help students with reading skills. Miss Dunn, our new resource teacher will support our assessment and curriculum and provide additional support to staff and students. An after school-tutoring program will be established by late August to support identified students with their academic skills. Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports or PBIS team is planning an official PBIS kick off later this school year. PBIS aligning our student behavioral expectations school wide and within each classroom. These expectations will be explicitly taught to every student.
Incoming Kindergarten and first grade students have been invited to an early meeting with their teachers August 4 and 5 to help them become acquainted with school and their learning.
Class lists will be posted on August 10 outside our school. Drop by between 2:00-5:00 pm if you can and say hi to our PTA president, Michelle Mercia and myself who will be out to greet you. We invite you to renew or initiate you PTA membership for $8.50. We plan to hold several events for our students and parents this year if permitted. Your support is needed and much appreciated. The YMCA will also be outside to provide information for those families needing childcare.

PUSD has a backpack giveaway this Friday, August 6 at The Village Conference Center, 1444 East Holt Blvd. in Pomona, Building 4, from 8:00-4:00 event while supplies last.
