Principal's Message

Ranch Hills

Elementary School

2 Trabuco Place, Pomona, California 91766 - (909) 397-4978

Dear Ranch Hills “Rattlers” Students and Families,

Howdy, I am Ms. Ashley Hedrick, your new principal!  As many of you know, the Great Mr. Riffell is officially retiring after 37 years of service in Pomona. Mr. Riffell has left a legacy of faith, character, and conviction. He has impacted the lives of so many adults and children alike, and he will certainly be missed! My desire is to continue his legacy.

As an educator in Pomona Unified School District, I have had the privilege of teaching in the classroom for 8 years and leading as a Teacher Specialist for the past 8 years. I have learned from great mentors, teachers, leaders, students, and families that have all impacted my life in immeasurable ways, including my mother- Becky Hedrick, who was a former principal here at Ranch Hills. It is, without a doubt, incredibly humbling to be walking in her footsteps.

Having said that, the staff and I are gearing up for a most successful year of teaching and learning. We would like to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year at Ranch Hills Elementary – Home of the Rattlers!   Ranch Hills, as I have come to quickly love, is an incredible place to learn and grow, a home away from home to connect with friends and staff, and a place to become involved in school programs and activities. In my eyes, one of the most important aspects of my work as your new principal is ensuring safety and building relationships with students, families, and staff.  It is my belief that it takes a collaborative effort on the part of everyone to meet the needs of the whole child - the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic. My sincere passion and purpose in life as an educator has always been to make a positive impact in the lives of others, especially children. Research continues to confirm that an excellent education can truly transform the lives of our youth, and thus, society. That is, and has always been my WHY.

With physical safety and the health and well-being of students and staff being paramount, the staff and I wanted to be sure to communicate any updates that we receive from the county and district.  Due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19  variants, per PUSD, and for the safety of our students and staff, we may receive new mandates. As soon as we know more, we will be sure to update you on the safety protocols.

As many of you know, the school year kicks off on Thursday, August 11, 2022.  As we welcome the Kindergarteners, the class of 2035 this Fall, we will also be welcoming returning students and staff, as well as a new Kindergarten teacher, Ms. DiMauro and a new 6th grade teacher, Ms. Hua, to Ranch Hills.

  • On the first day of school, class begins at 8:05 a.m. and dismissal for grades 1-6 is at  1:25 p.m; kindergarten dismissal is at 12:00 p.m. Please visit www.pusd.org/ranchhills  to access the bell schedule and calendar for the school year.
  • Also, on the first day, kindergarten students will be escorted to their meeting area where their teachers will greet them.  The teachers are planning activities to help get to know the students and make them comfortable with being at school. You are welcome to accompany your child to the drop off location.
  • For the remainder of the school year on Monday through Thursday, you may drop your child off at the curbside in front of the school, between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. or students may access school at the back gate by the lower park.   Our supervisors do not begin their work day until 7:30 on those days.
  • Please note, on Fridays, drop off will be between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. On Late Start Fridays, class begins promptly at 9:00.

As students begin to receive their schedules, please know that additional changes may  still occur as we balance our final master schedule.  All grade levels are invited to stop by school August 10th, between 2:00-5:00 p.m. if you are able, to say hello and check out your child's class list and teacher assignment.  You are also invited to join PTA on the spot for just a $10 donation (cash), and if you do, you will receive a free 2022-23 Ranch Hills school coloring calendar.  The YMCA and I will be there to answer any questions you may have.

The staff and I are certainly looking forward to this upcoming school year and anticipate that it will be a wonderful year for you and your children too. Our philosophy is that ALL children can achieve and do amazing things with the right support and a positive learning environment. Please know that our school expects everyone to lead and learn with STARS!
