Principal's Message

August 1, 2018

Dear Ranch Hills Families,

WELCOME BACK TO THE RANCH!  We are excited again as we gear up for the 2018-2019 year.  Welcome to all new students and their families and a special welcome to our incoming Kindergarteners.

I am a strong believer that all students can learn and need instruction that is rigorous and engaging as we prepare our students for their future success.  We trust your child will experience that here.

Our mascot is the rattlesnake and this year’s theme is SADDLE UP & FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.  It was submitted by one of our current 6th grade students and selected by our staff.  With the understanding that today’s world is constantly evolving, we are “saddling up” to work hard so that we can be prepared to accomplish whatever we “dream” to do.  We do this by preparing students with PUSD’s three C’s in mind: Shaping our students to be critical thinkers; teaching students to collaborate in order to learn with and from others; and encouraging creativity to allow our students to adapt and innovate, key characteristics of success in today’s world. Our school vision below reminds us that the elementary school years are critical for life long success:

The vision of Ranch Hills is for all students to realize their highest academic, personal, and social potentials through a high quality standards based instructional program, within a safe, supportive and positive environment, empowering each and every child to become lifelong learners and productive citizen.

School Start up Information:  The first day of school is Thursday, August 9, 2017.  School begins at 8:05 a.m. for all K -6 students.

Students may arrive as early as 7:30, eat a no-charge breakfast, and line up at their assigned room number on the playground where their teacher will meet them.  Parents are welcome to be on the campus on the morning of the first two days of school only.  Please join me in the cafeteria on August 9th for a welcome meeting where I will share some additional school information and introduce you to our PTA board members.  PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN.  Kindergarten will be released at 12:00 after they eat lunch and 1st – 6th grade will be released at 1:25.  In effort to continually increase school safety, parents will not be permitted on the playground starting August 14.

Friday, August 11, 2017 is NOT a Late Start Friday (LSF).  All Fridays after that are LSF.  On August 10th, all K – 6 grades begin school at 8:05 and Kindergarten will be released after lunch at 12:00 noon and grades 1-6 will be released again at 1:25.  Students may be dropped off beginning at 7:30 for breakfast. Again, Kindergarten will be released at 12:00 and 1st – 6th grade will be released at 1:25.  THIS YEAR ALL STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH A NO CHARGE LUNCH!

Monday August 14 and beyond:  School will resume regular start and end times except for Kindergarten which will have a transitional dismissal period as our little ones adapt to a full day.

When will I find out about specific classroom placement for my child?

  • Class assignments will be posted on the Office Gates on Wednesday, August 8, by 5:00 p.m.
  • Supervisors and the principal will be outside the first day to help students find their class.
